Our theme is Taking a Stand. This week we will explore the idea of protests. We will create our own original protest and then we will reconstruct an actual historical protest. On Friday, we will begin constructing our opening scene for the show.
Students who were not able to come to the Immersion Theatre Informational Meetings but are still interested can drop by the auditorium to pick up information from Mrs. Westphal. The immersion theatre group will have their first meeting this Friday, Sept. 15. Students will have the opportunity to experience what Immersion theatre is like and explore the theme. This meeting is manditory . Please bring your permission slips and contract.
The Immersion Theatre Project
Schedule: We will work on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays. We recommend that you attend at least two days a week, but everyone must come on Fridays. Since we are creating the piece, the size of your part is directly related to how often you come to rehearsal. You have several options about how you will attend. We just ask that you are consistent with coming on the days you select. Option 1- Come on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and become a major creator of the piece. Option 2- Come on Mondays and Fridays and you can help create two- three of the scenes. Options 3-Come on Wednesdays and Fridays and help create two- three of the scenes. Option 4: Come on Fridays and have a smaller part only in the whole cast scenes. Rehearsals will vary in length. In the beginning we will work from 3:40 until about 4:20 or 4:30. Eventually we will rehearse until 5. I will send home an note or email when the rehearsal length changes. Theme: Our theme is “Taking a Stand”. Think about people you know, people you have heard about in history, or moments when you took a stand for something you believed in. Ask your parents whom they admire for taking a stand for something. What is Immersion Theatre : This performance will have four to six scenes. After a whole cast scene in the auditorium, there will be scenes in other locations. Each small group scene will take place in a different part of the school. One scene might be in the gym, one in the library, one on the stage, and one in the cafeteria. When the audience gathers in the auditorium in the beginning we will give each of them a ticket or a wristband with a color. The color will indicate the group they are in. Each group will have 20 or 25 people in it. Each small group scene will be presented 4 or five times with the audience moving through to each scene. The audience will become minor characters and thus be immersed in the scenes. The final scene will happen in the auditorium and with the whole cast and entire audience. Some of the actors will be “tour guides” and bring the audience from one location to another in character. First Meeting We will meet as a whole group to experience an immersion theatre scene on Friday Sept.. 15. This is mandatory. Please return your contract and permission slip at this rehearsal.
