This week the students will be introduced to the idea of the historical context of the novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. They will create a process drama where they will be children evacuated from London during the Blitz in 1940. We will work on the first scene from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We will explore the characters and take a tour of the professor's huge house.

This week in 6th grade we will continue to explore character through costume. We will design costumes and makeup for characters from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We will learn about how costumes are constructed and have the opportunity to practice "draping" fabric to create a temporary costume. We will explore how the benefits and challenges of downing a scene in costume. We will learn about theatre in the round.
This week in 6th grade we will be working on characterization. We will explore movement qualities and vocal and physical characterization. We will continue to work on having good focus in the scene. Students will investigate how to create mood and atmosphere in a scene. We will use techniques to build dramatic tension.
6th grade is learning about theatre conventions. They created a scene with narration. We are also working this week on creating mini scenes which show the back story of the characters. We are also learning about collaboration and passing the ficus within a scene.
